BROOKNEAL — Downtown Brookneal’s newest store — Nannys Prims and Games — presented an open house Sunday, its first day of business. It sells what Owner Kimberly Windsor describes as “primitive country decor,” adding “that’s new stuff for your home that looks almost like old stuff from the country or a farmhouse decor. It takes you back to the old times.”
When asked for the best examples of items she sells, she mentioned wooden frame pictures, outdoor items, wax tarts, wreaths and table-top florals. “It’s all unique — it’s hard to pick something — I would say maybe my handmade Amish furniture, especially the pie safes,” Windsor said. “Everybody in the olden days had pie safes.”
She continued, “A lot of my stuff you’re just not going to find in another store, especially the handmade furniture. A lot of the furniture you find now is pressboard — it isn’t made from solid wood like my furniture. I specialize in carrying American made things — all my furniture is 100 percent American handmade.” The store also has one wall dedicated to skilled games.
Nannys Prims and Games is at 330 Main St. Its hours are:
• 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday.
• 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday.
• 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday.
• 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.
“If everything goes well, maybe come summer I’ll have some Sundays hours,” Windsor said.
The store’s phone number is 434-376-1380 and its website is at nannysprimsandgames.com.
