A man working at BWXT’s Mount Athos Road plant in Lynchburg died on Friday morning, according to a statement from a company spokesman. The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, along with BWXT’s onsite Emergency Team responded to the scene at about 10:30 a.m.
The case is under investigation by the CCSO and BWXT’s internal team. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified, the spokesman reported.
The name of the deceased has not been released to the public, although next of kin has been notified. The company did not release further details of the incident.
According to reports, nobody else was injured in the incident, and not radioactive material was released. There is no environmental or public danger.
The nuclear firm, with headquarters in Lynchburg, has numerous facilities throughout the U.S. and Canada. The Mount Athos Road facility is at the northern edge of Campbell County.
