Man dies in morning wreck

A single-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Phenix claimed the life of a Brookneal man.

At 6:22 a.m., Virginia State Police Sr. Trooper W.J. Wilborn Jr. was called to the scene of the single-vehicle crash involving Casey L. Clowdis, 29. The crash occurred on Route 40 at the intersection of Route 727.

Clowdis was traveling southbound in a 1994 Ford Taurus on Route 727. He was reported traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the posted stop sign on Route 727, where it intersects with Route 40. The car ran through the intersection and off the right side of the road where it overturned several times.

Clowdis, who was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from his vehicle. He died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
