The Brookneal Lions Club is excited to announce that Clarence H. Jones Jr, has been nominated and selected as the Brookneal Lions Club 2019 Citizen of the Year.
Jones has served 40 years on the Brookneal Volunteer Fire Department. He is an active member of the Brookneal Presbyterian Church where he has served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Elder.
He is a member of the Brookneal Odd Fellows Lodge and a member of the Staunton River Masonic Lodge. He also served four years on the Brookneal Town Council.
He was married to Joanne George Jones and has two children, CH Jones III and Leigh Anne Francis. Jones was a gracious recipient of this 18 year old award.
He joins previous recipients including Mr. Carroll Holt, Mrs. Marie Harper, Mr. Donnie Bomar, Mrs. Carolyn Lusardi, Dr. John Campbell, Mrs. Ruby Jennings, Mr. William Guthrie, Mr. Herman Ginther, Mr. Mark Wilkes, Mr. Roger Vassar, Mr. Lee Booker, Mr. Gary Colbert, Mrs. Elizabeth Bates, Mrs. Phyllis Campbell, Mrs. Joan Hines, Mr. Jimmy Harper and Mrs. Meg Tibbs.
Jones was selected after nominations were received from the Brookneal, northern Halifax and southern Charlotte County communities to recognize a local citizen who epitomizes service to these communities.
A plaque of recognition and a $200 dollar donation to his charity of choice was given to him in recognition of this honor.
The Brookneal Lions Club will continue this tradition in 2020 by recognizing another local citizen who has served the Brookneal and surrounding communities.
