Brookneal ballpark fence is torn down

Many hours of hard work by the local Brookneal Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball Leagues goes into taking care of the Brookneal Ballpark so kids have a nice place to play ball.

The community was stunned last week on June 5 when Officer Clif Mason discovered extensive damage to the middle field where an unknown suspect drove their vehicle through the ballpark. The field was damaged as well as the outfield fence. It appears to have happened between the evening of June 4 and early hours of June 5.

A bike rack that was attached to their vehicle got entangled in the fencing and was left at the scene of the vandalism.

On Monday, Brookneal Police Chief Ricky Baldwin said that a few leads had come in with the vandalism being under investigation. Nothing was stolen or otherwise damaged. It does not appear to be related to any previous incidents at the ballpark. A few months ago the concession stand was broken into.

Officers are seeking public assistance in locating the owner of the vehicle and/or bike rack.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Officer Clifton D. Mason, (434) 376-2650, or submit your tip through Crime Stoppers, by calling 1-888-798-5900.
