William Campbell Football Preview: Generals Begin Fall Practice
By: Jason Daniel
The William Campbell Generals football team is preparing for the 2019 season with big aspirations on the grid iron.
Head Coach Danny Broggin is entering his fourth year at the helm. He and a veteran squad are looking to achieve their ultimate goal of winning a state championship.
The Generals return seven starters on offense led by their dynamic Junior quarterback Jermiah Smith, who has plenty of playmakers to get the ball to such as Junior wide receiver Chris Boyd and Senior running back Jordan Young in Broggin’s five wide-spread offense attack with Senior Trey Carr anchoring the offensive line.
Defensively, the Generals return six starters with Junior standout Zekeya Townes, who will be a force on the both sides of the ball leading the way.
Coach Broggin will use multiple fronts in what he describes as “a strong, physical brand of defense.” In 2018, the Generals came up short in the regional championship game. This season they once again have all the ingredients and leadership to make another deep postseason run. “Our time is now.” adds Broggin.
The road will not be an easy one as they must navigate through a tough non-conference and improved Dogwood District schedule starting on August 30 at home against Staunton River.
