Abdimajid Mohamed Nur, 24, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his involvement in the massive $300 million Feeding Our Future fraud scheme in Minnesota.
According to U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen, Nur and several co-defendants falsely claimed to have provided 18 million meals to children, collecting more than $47 million in federal nutrition program funds. The operation was run out of Empire Cuisine & Market in Shakopee, which joined the Federal Child Nutrition Program in April 2020.
Judge Nancy E. Brasel condemned Nur’s actions during sentencing, saying, “It is so disappointing and so disheartening that where others saw a crisis and rushed to help, you saw money and rushed to steal.”
Investigators found that Nur laundered stolen funds through multiple shell companies, including his own, Nur Consulting LLC. He used the money for luxury purchases and personal expenses, such as a 2021 Dodge Ram pickup and a honeymoon trip to the Maldives.
Nur also paid a company to complete his college coursework, resulting in a fraudulent degree from Herzing University.
In a separate case, Nur and several others attempted to bribe a juror with $120,000 in cash during his seven-week COVID fraud trial in June 2024. He has pleaded guilty in that juror bribery case and is awaiting sentencing.
