4. Fatal Crash Shuts Down 149th and LaGrange Road for Hours in Orland Park

A 66-year-old man was killed Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle during a four-car crash near Orland Square Mall in Orland Park, police confirmed. The collision happened at approximately 10:52 a.m. at the intersection of 149th Street and LaGrange Road, prompting a significant emergency response that shut down the busy intersection for several hours.

According to police, the pedestrian was hit after one of the vehicles involved in the crash left the roadway and struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released his identity, and no information about charges or contributing factors has been made public as the investigation continues.

Three other people sustained injuries in the crash, with conditions ranging from minor to moderate. Orland Fire Protection District officials said three of the four vehicles involved suffered heavy damage.

Emergency crews treated the injured patients on scene before transporting them to area hospitals.

Orland Park police initially reported that three vehicles were involved in the crash, but clarified Monday afternoon that a fourth vehicle was also part of the collision.

The Orland Fire Protection District responded alongside police as crews worked to manage the scene and care for those injured.

Road Closure Disrupts Traffic for Hours

The intersection of 149th Street and LaGrange Road, a heavily traveled corridor near Orland Square Mall, remained closed for the better part of the day as investigators documented the scene and interviewed witnesses.

Drivers in the area were asked to find alternate routes while emergency personnel worked. The intersection did not reopen until 6 p.m. Monday evening, nearly seven hours after the crash occurred.

The closure caused considerable disruption to traffic in one of the southwest suburbs’ busiest commercial areas, with the mall and surrounding businesses drawing steady vehicle and foot traffic throughout the day.

Investigation Ongoing, Identity Not Yet Released

Orland Park police have not disclosed the identities of the drivers involved in the crash, nor have they released the name of the man who was killed. No arrests have been announced, and no charges have been filed at this time. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation.

This is not the first fatal crash to occur in the Orland Park area in recent years. A hit-and-run in July 2025 claimed the life of an Oak Lawn man at a separate location, drawing community attention to pedestrian safety along busy suburban roadways.

That case prompted a reward offer from authorities seeking information from the public.

Monday’s crash adds to a string of serious incidents involving pedestrians in the southwest suburbs.

Community members and local officials have periodically raised concerns about traffic safety at major intersections in the area, particularly those near shopping centers and high-volume commercial zones.

Anyone with information about the crash at 149th Street and LaGrange Road is encouraged to contact the Orland Park Police Department.

Updates on the identity of the victim and any developments in the investigation are expected to be released as police complete their review of the scene and witness accounts.
