Birtwell passed away on April 11, 2026, at just 21 years old, leaving behind family, friends, teammates, and coaches who remember him not only for his ability on the field but also for his character off it.
A Rising Pitcher with Big Dreams
Born on February 4, 2005, in Norwell, Massachusetts, Birtwell grew into a dedicated and versatile athlete. A graduate of Norwell High School, he was a three-year varsity baseball player who excelled as a pitcher, infielder, and outfielder.
During his high school career, he earned recognition as a three-time South Shore League All-Star and served as team captain, reflecting both his skill and leadership.
Birtwell’s passion for excellence extended beyond sports. He was deeply involved in his school’s robotics team, serving as Build Captain and later Drive Captain, showcasing his curiosity and discipline in academics and technology.
After high school, he continued his baseball journey at Gordon College, where he competed in Division III baseball. Over two seasons, he developed as a pitcher, making multiple appearances and steadily improving his performance.
In 2026, he transferred to Sacred Heart University, stepping up to Division I competition as a right-handed pitcher for the Pioneers.
That same year, Birtwell also played summer baseball with the Vermont Lake Monsters, gaining valuable experience in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
His time there further demonstrated his dedication to the game and his ambition to compete at higher levels.
Off the field, Birtwell had clear aspirations for the future. He planned to study exercise science and hoped to one day become both a professional baseball player and a doctor of physical therapy.
Those goals reflected a strong work ethic and a desire to help others, traits that defined him as much as his athletic ability.
