Grammy-nominated singer Akon was arrested last week in Chamblee, Georgia, after police discovered an outstanding bench warrant for his arrest.
According to officials, the 51-year-old performer — whose full name is Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam — was taken into custody around 11 a.m. on November 7 when a Flock camera alerted officers that a vehicle registered to him was parked outside Tint World on Chamblee Dunwoody Road.
Police said the warrant stemmed from a September 10 citation in Roswell, where Akon was charged with driving on a suspended license and driving without proof of insurance after his Tesla Cybertruck was found stranded at the intersection of Holcomb Bridge Road and Market Boulevard.
When approached by Chamblee officers, Akon reportedly complied with police orders and was detained without incident. He was later booked into DeKalb County Jail and released a few hours afterward.
Representatives for Akon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Akon rose to international fame in the early 2000s with his hit single “Locked Up” and albums such as Trouble (2004) and Konvicted (2006), which produced chart-topping singles including “Smack That” and “I Wanna Love You.”
Beyond his music career, Akon is a record producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, known for founding Konvict Muzik, KonLive Distribution, and Akon Lighting Africa, an initiative providing electricity to communities across Africa.
Despite a history of legal controversies — including a past gun possession conviction and a 2007 concert incident in which he threw a teenager into the crowd — Akon has since emphasized his focus on business ventures and humanitarian projects, including the planned development of his futuristic city in Senegal.
