A Lewis County grand jury has indicted a 27-year-old man in connection with the death of his 17-month-old stepchild, who died in May from severe head trauma.
Zachary Williams, 27, has been formally charged with murder and multiple felonies following a months-long investigation into the toddler’s death.
Emergency crews were called to a residence after reports that a baby was not breathing. First responders administered CPR, and the child was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
An autopsy revealed a severe skull fracture at the back of the infant’s head. The medical examiner determined the injury resulted from significant trauma.
According to court documents, Williams admitted to investigators that he threw the child out of frustration because the baby was crying. He told police the toddler struck his head on both a bed frame and the floor. Williams reportedly acknowledged that the child’s death was his fault and was taken into custody.
Williams’ indictment includes four felony counts:
-
One count of murder
-
One count of death of a child by a parent, guardian, or custodian
-
One count of child abuse causing serious bodily injury
-
One count of malicious assault
