00The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is warning residents to steer clear of deceptive online gambling sites designed to look legitimate but operating with no accountability or consumer safeguards.
In a recent social media post, the department urged Minnesotans not to fall for illegal platforms that promise big payouts but often operate outside the United States to evade regulation and enforcement. Officials say these websites frequently lack basic consumer protections and expose users to significant financial risks.
Attorney General Keith Ellison has joined the department’s Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division to combat the growing problem. The partnership aims to protect Minnesotans’ money, defend the state’s legal gambling industry, and ensure communities continue benefiting from lawful gaming revenue.
“There’s no accountability, no consumer protection, and most are based outside of the United States to avoid regulation and enforcement,” the department warned in its post.
State officials say illegal gambling sites not only mislead individuals but also threaten Minnesota’s legitimate gaming economy. Ellison’s collaboration with enforcement agencies represents a coordinated effort to shut down unlawful operations and hold bad actors accountable.
With the holiday season approaching—a time when scammers often ramp up their activity—the department is intensifying its message for consumers to stay vigilant. Authorities encourage residents to thoroughly verify any gambling website before sharing personal or financial information.
According to the announcement, the Attorney General’s Office remains committed “to protect Minnesotans’ money, the legal gaming industry, and the communities they support.”
