A Plymouth police officer shot a man while responding to a domestic disturbance early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
According to the Plymouth Police Department, officers were dispatched just after 4:30 a.m. to a home on the 6100 block of Quinwood Lane North after reports of a disturbance involving a man knocking on a residential window.
When a responding officer encountered the man in a parking lot, police say he was armed with a handgun. The officer fired, striking the man, who was taken to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The officer was not injured and has been placed on critical incident leave, which is standard procedure in police-involved shootings.
No additional details on the circumstances leading up to the shooting have been released.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is now handling the investigation.
