Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 Commander Relieved Amid Investigation

Lt. Col. Calischaran G. James has been relieved as commanding officer of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 in Okinawa, the Marine Corps announced Wednesday, citing an ongoing investigation.

Maj. Gen. Marcus B. Annibale, commanding general of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, stated James was relieved “due to loss of trust and confidence in his ability to command.” Officials did not disclose specifics regarding the investigation.

“Commanders are held to the highest standards of conduct and must consistently live above reproach,” the wing said in a release. “This decision reflects the Marine Corps’ dedication to upholding the trust and confidence that are essential for effective leadership.”

James, originally from the Commonwealth of Dominica, enlisted in 1998 and was commissioned in 2006 through the Enlisted Commissioning Program. He assumed command of MALS-36 in May 2024. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.

Lt. Col. Ryan T. Iden has been named interim commander of the squadron while the investigation continues.
