Man Dies, 4 Officers Injured After House Fire in Southern Minnesota

A man in his 40s died Monday afternoon after a fire broke out at a home in southern Minnesota.

Fairmont police said emergency crews responded to a structure fire on the 300 block of South Park Street around 4:42 p.m. Officers arrived to find flames pouring from the home’s basement and tried to put out the fire until firefighters reached the scene.

Two men were taken to the hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. A 43-year-old man later died from his injuries, while a 41-year-old man was treated and released, police said.

Four Fairmont police officers were also treated for smoke inhalation.
