A judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against the city of Minneapolis over the clearing of a homeless encampment.
The lawsuit challenged Mayor Jacob Frey’s efforts to clear Camp Nenookaasi, a longstanding homeless encampment.
The lawsuit claimed the repeated clearings since January 2024 caused emotional distress to residents living in the camp.
However, a federal judge ruled that no reasonable jury would find the mayor’s actions extreme or outrageous, leading to the case’s dismissal.
A city spokesperson told, “The City is pleased with the Court’s decision. Encampments are not a safe or dignified form of shelter and pose serious public health and safety concerns. The Mayor and his administration have made affordable housing a top priority, and City staff and partners will continue to work to provide for the health and safety of unsheltered individuals and the community.”
