Minnesota Man Faces Federal Kidnapping Charges in 2017 and 2025 Assaults

Abdimahat Billie Mohamed, 28, a Minnesota man previously convicted of criminal sexual conduct, now faces federal charges for kidnapping a 15-year-old girl in 2017 and kidnapping a woman in September 2025, according to court documents filed Thursday.

In the 2017 case, Mohamed lured the teenage girl via Snapchat under the name “Alesto.” She offered to pay him for a ride from St. Paul to Minneapolis. Mohamed drove her to a different location, claiming he needed to retrieve something from his home. The girl became frightened, but child locks prevented her from leaving. Two other men, one armed with a revolver, entered the car, forcing the girl to perform sexual acts. Mohamed then raped her before dropping her off. DNA evidence later linked Mohamed to the assault.

Mohamed pleaded guilty in April 2025 to third-degree criminal sexual conduct in the 2017 incident and fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct for a 2024 assault. He received prison sentences, though their execution was stayed.

In the September 2025 case, Mohamed picked up a woman he had met, drove her roughly 70 miles to a Bloomington hotel, and held her for nearly a week, sexually assaulting her twice. She escaped and alerted police; DNA evidence confirmed Mohamed’s involvement.

Federal charges include kidnapping and kidnapping of a minor, and state charges include third-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping. Mohamed is a Somali national and could face life in prison if convicted.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty criticized the federal charges as a political attempt that could harm the Somali community.
