The search for 35-year-old Leanne Varao continued in McCloud on Wednesday, one day after she and her partner allegedly opened fire during a pursuit that began with a traffic stop in Mt. Shasta.
According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, Varao’s partner, Stephen Robles, 36, was arrested around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies said law enforcement maintained a strong presence in the McCloud area until officers located and arrested Varao. On Wednesday at approximately 11 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Varao had also been found and taken into custody. Both suspects are now being held at the Siskiyou County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office also announced that the shelter-in-place order related to this incident has been lifted.
