Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with Vehicle in Hampton

A motorcyclist died Saturday night following a collision with a vehicle at the intersection of East Mercury Boulevard and East Pembroke Avenue, according to Hampton police.

Around 9:21 p.m., Public Safety Communications received a report of a two-vehicle crash. When officers arrived, they found a motorcycle with its operator unresponsive and a vehicle carrying two occupants.

Hampton Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger in the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Preliminary findings indicate the motorcycle was traveling southbound on East Mercury Boulevard when it collided with a vehicle moving eastbound on East Pembroke Avenue.

A nearby witness, Adrian Davis, a manager at the Wawa on East Mercury Boulevard, said he heard the crash just as he was clocking in for work.

“Literally right as I was walking in the doors, I heard a loud screech and a boom,” Davis said. “I looked outside and saw sirens, lights, and just a bunch of mess. Starting my night like that was very mind-blowing. It’s sad—no one wants this to happen.”

Another anonymous witness claimed the crash may have followed a police pursuit involving the motorcycle.

“I saw the police officer’s lights, and a block before the intersection, he turned his lights and sirens off,” the witness said. “The motorcycle went through the intersection, and traffic started moving because the officer shut everything off.”

The woman who identified herself as the motorcyclist’s mother, Miranda Cantrell, said she became worried when her 18-year-old son, Jayden, did not make his usual call after work.

“My son usually calls me and says, ‘Hey mom, I made it to the shop. I’m getting ready to close up. I’ll see you in a little bit,’” Cantrell said. “I didn’t get that phone call.”

Cantrell said she has not received clear answers from police and urged anyone with information to come forward.

“We were out here forever, and I got no answers,” she said. “Nobody notified me. Nobody looked for me. If you have information—if you saw something, witnessed it, or have footage—please help us. We need to piece this together.”

The Hampton Police Division’s Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
