A late-night rideshare trip in Simpsonville, South Carolina, turned terrifying when an Uber driver allegedly fired shots at two passengers following a concert in downtown Greenville.
The incident led to the arrest of 24-year-old Jamal Rogers, who was taken into custody on February 27, 2026. Authorities charged him with breach of peace – high and aggravated nature, while continuing their investigation into what exactly triggered the violent confrontation inside the vehicle.
According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, the passengers had used Uber Technologies Inc. to arrange transportation home after attending an evening concert.
What began as an ordinary ride reportedly escalated into a frightening experience as the vehicle traveled along I-385 toward Hwy 417. The passengers told deputies the driver began speeding shortly after they entered the car, describing the driving as aggressive and dangerous. They said the car moved at excessive speeds and made sharp turns that caused one passenger to fall into the lap of the other.
The passengers claimed they repeatedly asked the driver to slow down, but instead of reducing speed, the driver allegedly became angry.
At one point, they said the driver turned toward them while responding to their requests. The situation reportedly worsened when the driver attempted to retrieve a phone that had fallen from a dashboard holder, causing the vehicle to run off the road momentarily.
Fear grew inside the car as the passengers said they felt unable to safely exit while the vehicle continued moving. They later told investigators that the driver eventually stopped along a two-lane road.
Once the car stopped, both passengers exited and ran toward a nearby church in an attempt to reach safety. As they fled, they told deputies they heard gunshots being fired in their direction, creating further panic during the already traumatic escape.
