Rebecca “Becca” Edith Ley, affectionately known to many as “Becca Boo,” is being remembered as a bright, creative, and deeply inspiring young woman whose life, though far too short, left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
She passed away on March 8, 2026, at the age of 28, leaving behind a legacy defined by talent, resilience, and warmth.
Raised in Rumson, New Jersey, Becca was a proud graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, Class of 2016. From an early age, she stood out not only for her natural athletic ability but also for her curiosity and creativity.
She went on to attend Monmouth University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education in 2021, continuing to pursue both her academic and athletic passions.
Sports played a significant role in Becca’s life. She explored gymnastics, surfing, and diving, but it was running that truly captured her heart. As a dedicated distance runner, she competed in cross country and track throughout her school years and into college.
Her determination and discipline led to a remarkable achievement in 2018 when she set a university record in the 5,000-meter run, a testament to her perseverance and competitive spirit.
Beyond athletics, Becca was equally gifted in the arts. She had a natural eye for beauty and expression, which she shared through her artwork and writing.
During her school years, she was a member of the National Art Honor Society, and her creativity remained a constant presence in her life.
She often gave her artwork as heartfelt gifts to friends and family, leaving behind pieces that now carry even deeper meaning.
Her writing, however, revealed perhaps the most personal side of her journey. Following the loss of her mother in 2019, Becca channeled her grief into storytelling and reflection, publishing two books titled How Dar-e You Leave Age of Ghosts and Me.
Through these works, she not only honored her mother’s memory but also offered comfort and connection to others navigating loss.
Those who knew Becca describe her as a radiant and genuine soul. She had a unique ability to bring light into any room, combining wisdom beyond her years with a playful, imaginative spirit.
Her sense of humor, honesty, and individuality made her unforgettable. She approached life with authenticity and encouraged others to do the same, leaving a powerful example of how to live with openness and heart.
Becca was preceded in death by her mother, Daryl Diane Ley, and her brother, Thomas Cooper Ley. Her family finds comfort in the thought that they are reunited.
She is survived by her father, Thomas Ley; her sister, Adrienne O’Connell, and her husband, Matthew; her brother, Benjamin Ley; her grandmother; and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will continue to carry her memory forward.
A memorial service to celebrate Becca’s life will be held on March 28, followed by a funeral service on March 30 in Red Bank.
In honoring her legacy, loved ones are encouraged to support causes that reflect her spirit, including organizations focused on mental health and art therapy.
Becca’s life was one of passion, creativity, and connection. Though her time was brief, the light she shared continues to shine in the hearts of those who loved her.
