The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the death of Marlow Trottie, a 35-year-old man whose body was found in the 2400 block of Cummins Street on the morning of Monday, June 8, 2026.
Officers arrived at the scene shortly after 7:30 a.m. following a call about a person found unresponsive. Investigators have since confirmed the death as a homicide, and the case is still active.
Trottie was born on July 1, 1990, and had lived in the Alexandria area for much of his life. To those who knew him personally, he was remembered not by the tragedy of how he died, but by the kind of person he was while he lived.
Friends and family described a man who was generous to a fault, quick to laugh, and slow to turn anyone away who needed help. His presence, they said, had a way of lifting the mood in any room he walked into.
His sister Tillerria Howard broke the news on social media with a tribute that resonated deeply with people who had known Trottie over the years. She wrote that he would give his last even when he had little to spare, and that no matter what hardships life had thrown at him, he never became bitter or closed off.
She recalled a brother who fought with her the way siblings do, made up the same way, and never left any doubt that the love between them was real and constant.
“He lit up the room,” she wrote. “Rest peacefully, brother. Your smile, your laugh, and your memory will live on through all of us who loved you.”
Howard also noted that their mother is devastated by the loss and that the family is simply asking for space and prayers while they try to process a grief that feels impossible to carry.
A Neighborhood and Community Left Searching for Answers
The response from the Alexandria community was immediate. Dozens of people flooded social media with condolences, many of them sharing brief but personal memories of Trottie.
Those who commented largely described the same person his family did, a quiet man who kept to himself and never looked for trouble. Several people called for justice and expressed frustration that another life had been cut short by violence in their city.
At this point, Alexandria police have not named a suspect or disclosed a motive. The investigation is being handled by the APD Detective Division, and authorities are encouraging anyone with information to reach out directly.
