Baton Rouge Instagram Comedian, Dejontay Wings, 27, Arrested for Breaking Into Former Oil Change Job, Stealing $200

Dejontay Wings, a 27-year-old social media comedian with nearly 300,000 Instagram followers, was arrested by Baton Rouge Police after allegedly breaking into a Take 5 Oil Change location on Airline Highway, where he previously worked, stealing $200 from a safe.

According to a Baton Rouge Police Department arrest warrant, Wings broke a window in the garage area of the business around 10:50 p.m. on December 2, 2025.

He then moved through the office, located the safe, and removed approximately $200 in cash. He was formally arrested on Saturday and booked on charges of simple burglary and criminal property damage.

Fired Two Weeks Before the Break-In

What makes the case particularly notable is the timeline between his termination and the alleged burglary. The business manager told investigators that Wings had been let go from the job roughly two weeks before the incident took place.

Investigators believe his prior employment gave him knowledge of the property layout, including where the safe was located, which may have made it easier to move through the building in the dark.

The Airline Highway location is a busy auto service spot, and the late-night timing of the break-in suggests a deliberate attempt to avoid detection. Police say Wings entered through a broken garage window before making his way to the office area.

Caught by His Walk, Not His Face

Perhaps the most unusual detail in the case is how Wings was ultimately identified. The security camera system at the business malfunctioned during the break-in, failing to capture clear footage of the suspect’s face.

That technical failure could have derailed the investigation entirely. Instead, the shop manager told investigators he recognized the individual on the partial footage by his distinctive walk alone.

That identification became a central piece of the evidence that led authorities to Wings and eventually resulted in his arrest. It is a rare instance where surveillance technology fell short, but a personal familiarity with someone’s mannerisms filled the gap.

Wings had built a recognizable presence online under the Instagram handle wingstoofunny, amassing around 296,000 followers through comedy content.

He had been part of the Baton Rouge local social media scene for years, with some commenters online noting his history going back to the Vine era alongside other regional creators.

Reactions on social media were mixed. Some followers expressed disbelief, with one user writing that he thought authorities had the wrong person entirely.

Others made light of the situation, pointing to the $200 figure as a punchline in itself. One commenter noted plainly that $200 was not exactly a haul worth the risk.

As of now, the charges remain allegations. Wings has not been convicted of any crime, and the case will proceed through the Louisiana court system, where prosecutors will be required to present their evidence. The charges carry potential jail time under Louisiana law, though the specifics of sentencing would depend on how the case unfolds.

No additional suspects have been named in connection with the incident, and police have not indicated whether the investigation is ongoing or considered closed with the arrest.
