A teenager was shot and killed in Baton Rouge early Wednesday morning in a double shooting that has left a school community grieving and investigators searching for answers.
Joshua Robinson Jr., 17, was fatally shot around 12:18 a.m. on June 10 at an apartment complex on Plank Road near Harding Boulevard. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity.
Robinson, a rising senior at Scotlandville Magnet High School, was found at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.
A second victim also sustained a gunshot wound during the same incident and made his way independently to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said that the person’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Baton Rouge Police Department officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire. As of Wednesday, investigators had not identified a suspect or established a motive.
The case remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
A School Community in Mourning
Scotlandville Magnet High School confirmed Robinson’s death and released a statement addressed to its school community, describing the loss as deeply tragic. School administration acknowledged that students, staff, and families would be processing a wide range of emotions in the wake of the news.
The statement read in part that the school recognizes many members of its community will be affected and encouraged students to lean on one another for support.
Scotlandville High School and I CARE counselors have been made available to any student experiencing grief, anxiety, or emotional distress. Families were encouraged to reach out to the school directly to be connected with appropriate counseling resources.
The statement closed with a call for the Scotlandville family to keep those affected by the tragedy in their thoughts and to continue showing kindness and compassion in the days ahead.
A Life Cut Short Before Senior Year
Robinson had been set to begin his senior year at Scotlandville Magnet High School in the fall, a milestone he would never reach. Family members confirmed his identity to local media shortly after the shooting.
His death adds to a troubling pattern of gun violence affecting young people across the Baton Rouge area in recent weeks.
The Plank Road shooting came amid a stretch of violence that has kept local law enforcement busy. Just days earlier, Baker High School experienced two separate shootings within 48 hours, prompting the campus to close indefinitely.
The repeated incidents have raised urgent concerns among parents, educators, and community members about the safety of young people both inside and outside of school grounds.
Robinson’s death is a reminder of the real human cost behind each crime report. He was not a statistic but a teenager with a future ahead of him, known to classmates and loved by his family.
