A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by a car early Wednesday morning while crossing a busy Beaverton road on an electric scooter, according to police.
The Beaverton Police Department said officers and medics were called to Southwest Scholls Ferry Road near Southwest Loon Drive just before 6:30 a.m.
Investigators said the teen was riding his scooter through a marked crosswalk when a vehicle struck him. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Police confirmed the boy suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition as of Wednesday evening.
Driver Stayed At The Scene
The driver of the car, a 16-year-old boy, did not flee after the crash. Police said he remained at the scene and has been cooperating fully with investigators as they work to determine exactly what happened in the moments before the collision.
Authorities have not yet released a cause for the crash, and the investigation is ongoing. Officials are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam or other footage of the area around the time of the crash, to come forward.

Because of the crash, Scholls Ferry Road was shut down for several hours on Wednesday morning as crews worked the scene and emergency vehicles moved in and out of the area.

News of the crash spread quickly through the Beaverton community, and by Wednesday evening, dozens of people had gathered near the site where the teen was hit.
Many came to show support for the boy and his family, leaving flowers, signs, and other tributes along the roadside. Others in the crowd said they wanted to be present simply to show that the neighborhood was thinking of the injured teen during a difficult time.
The crash has reignited concerns among some residents about pedestrian and scooter safety along Scholls Ferry Road, a corridor known for heavy traffic during school commute hours.
