William Romero, 90, of Estancia, New Mexico, remembered for faith, family, and community, passed away peacefully.

Estancia, NM — The town of Estancia is mourning the loss of longtime resident William Romero, who passed away peacefully at his home on January 20, 2026, at the age of 90.

His passing marks the end of a life deeply rooted in family, faith, and community.

Romero was born on May 16, 1935, in Palma, New Mexico, to Liberato and Rosario Romero. He grew up in a large family, surrounded by siblings and traditions that shaped his values.

Over the course of his life, he became known not only as a devoted husband and father but also as a man whose presence touched many in Estancia.

He shared nearly 60 years of marriage with his wife, Pauline Padilla Romero, a partnership that stood as a testament to love and commitment.

Together, they raised a family that grew to include children, grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, and even great‑great‑grandchildren.

His home was always filled with the warmth of family gatherings, celebrations, and the bonds that carried through generations.

Romero was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, and two of his children, Rose Stokan and Willie Lee Romero. Despite these losses, his life remained centered on resilience and devotion to those around him.

He is survived by Pauline and five children: Marcella Lasher, Ida Reynolds, William Romero Jr., Katherine Snead, and Anita. His legacy continues through his many descendants, each carrying forward his values of family and faith.

Funeral services were held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church in Estancia.

The day began with a viewing at 9:00 a.m., followed by a rosary and mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial took place at Estancia Catholic Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.

Pallbearers included Ocello Morales, Ronald Reynolds, Anthony Reynolds, Matthew Burns, Justen Gore, and Leedro Romero, each honored to carry him to his final resting place.

For the Estancia community, Romero’s passing is more than the loss of a neighbor. He was a figure of stability, someone whose presence reminded others of the importance of family ties and shared traditions.

His life story reflects the values of small‑town New Mexico, where community bonds run deep and faith plays a central role in daily life.
