Cambridge Community Mourns the Tragic Loss of 30-Year-Old Hunter G. Kiefer Following a Fatal Car Accident West of Kewanee

The community of Cambridge, Illinois, is grieving the tragic loss of 30-year-old Illinois native Hunter G. Kiefer, known for his big heart and love of the outdoors, who passed away far too soon in a car accident that occurred west of Kewanee on March 1, 2026, leaving behind a heartbroken family and friends.

Hunter Gregory Kiefer was born on December 13, 1995, to Robert Kiefer and Theresa Moody. He grew up in Kewanee, IL, surrounded by his siblings, Kayleigh, Christopher, Rhiannon, Geneseo, Hailey, Silvis, and Kayle.

A proud graduate of Cambridge High School‘s class of 2014, Hunter built a solid career as a licensed plumber with Wirth Inc. in Geneseo, where he was respected for his skill and reliability.

Above all, Hunter was a devoted father to his three beautiful children, Benett, Wyatt, and Norah, who were the light of his life.

He was also a cherished uncle, always ready with a smile or a helping hand. His passions ran deep: he loved hunting and fishing, cooking meals outdoors, cruising back roads with country music playing, chasing storms, shooting, and simply being there for others.

As a member of the NRA and White Tails Unlimited, he embraced the outdoor lifestyle that defined so much of who he was.

The news of his passing has hit hard, with many sharing memories and condolences. His father, Robert, posted an emotional tribute:

“A big part of me is missing today that I will never get back here on earth. I will see you again, my son!! Tell them you love them every day! There will come a day when you can’t.”

Another close friend, Page Wexell, reflected on their childhood bond:

“I can’t say anything. We used to be some of the bestest buds. Prolly in big thanks to our Dads being besties—we got along so great! Growing up as kids left me with good memories… RIP Hunter—you are loved by so many! Enjoy your reunion with Wy. I wish my words and prayers could vanish the pain so many are feeling.”

Hunter was preceded in death by his grandfathers and his best friend, Wyatt Obermeier. He is survived by his three children, his parents, his siblings, step-parents, step-siblings, and a wide circle of loved ones who will carry his memory forward.

A memorial service to honor Hunter’s life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services in Cambridge. Pastor Terry Lancaster will officiate.

Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Instead of flowers, memorials may be made directly to support his children.

Hunter G. Kiefer lived a full life in his 30 years, filled with love, adventure, and kindness. His sudden departure in the Hunter G. Kiefer car accident reminds us how fragile life can be.

The Cambridge community holds his family close in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Hunter.
