Ethan Robert Nicholas, of Castle Rock, Colorado, passed away on March 30, 2026, at the age of 21.

He was born on June 28, 2004, and spent his life building strong connections with family, friends, and coworkers while pursuing a career he was deeply passionate about.

Ethan grew up in Castle Rock and graduated from Castle View High School on May 18, 2022. After high school, he followed a clear goal of entering the mechanical and aviation field, inspired in part by his father.

He enrolled at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology, where he focused on Aviation Maintenance Technology.

Through dedication and hard work, Ethan earned an Associate of Applied Science degree as an Aviation Maintenance Technician on March 26, 2024.

He later achieved his Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic license in December 2024, marking an important milestone in his professional journey.

Before completing his studies, Ethan began working for Alstom Transport USA at Denver International Airport. There, he served as an Operations and Maintenance Technician for the people mover transit system.

He was recognized as the youngest technician in his role and took pride in being part of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 25. He was steadily progressing toward completing his Automated People Mover Conveyance license and was enthusiastic about growing in his field.

Ethan enjoyed his work and valued the environment he was part of. He appreciated the tasks he was given, the coworkers he met, and the everyday experiences that came with his job.

He often approached life with humor and curiosity and was known for bringing a lighthearted energy to those around him.

Outside of work, Ethan had a wide range of interests. He enjoyed video games, cars, motorcycles, dirt bikes, snowboarding, snowmobiling, golfing, bowling, and anything related to automotive culture.

He liked collecting car air fresheners, using strong colognes, and relaxing with naps alongside his dog, Lil Man. He also enjoyed simple comforts such as popsicles, soft items, and good socks, which he considered one of his favorite everyday pleasures.

Those who knew Ethan describe him as someone with a kind heart and a playful personality. While he could appear quiet and reserved at times, he was also funny, outgoing, and confident with people he was close to.

He had a talent for making others laugh, often using nicknames and playful teasing to brighten conversations. His friends and family remember his thoughtful hugs, his curiosity about life, and his ability to balance silliness with sincerity.

Ethan is survived by his parents, Dana Sue Sachse and David Duane Nicholas, and his siblings Jason Smith, Ryan Smith, and Paige Nicholas.

He is also survived by his nieces, Blayke and Peyton Smith, his maternal grandmother Merle Sachse, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members. He held a special place in his heart for his soulmate, Sophia Stolzer, and her family, who were an important part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Duane Nicholas, Donald Robert Sachse, and Mary Doreen Nicholas.

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 4:00 in the afternoon until 7:00 in the evening at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel in Castle Rock, Colorado.

A celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2:00 in the afternoon at the same location. A livestream will also be available for those unable to attend in person.
