Dr. Purtell passed away unexpectedly on March 9, 2026, following a car accident. His passing has brought deep sorrow to those who admired his work, kindness, and commitment to helping others grow.
Dr. Purtell was widely known for his passion for supply chain education and his ability to inspire students both inside and outside the classroom.
Through his teaching, mentorship, and involvement with student organizations, he played an important role in guiding the next generation of supply chain professionals.

He is survived by his wife, Amber Leigh Grider-Purtell, whom he loved deeply. Their relationship began years earlier in Lexington, Oklahoma, a place that held special meaning for the couple, as it is where they first met and later married.
Family members said their bond was built on love, faith, and mutual respect.
Dr. Purtell was also a proud father to his children, Chip, Jackie, and Brooklyn, who remember him not only as a supportive parent but also as someone who inspired them through his work ethic, compassion, and dedication to others.
Friends say he valued time with his family and took great pride in watching his children grow and pursue their own paths.

Funeral services will take place on March 17, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Lexington at 10 a.m. CST. Visitation is scheduled for March 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wilson-Little Funeral Home.
The family chose Lexington for the funeral service because of its personal significance in Dr. Purtell’s life and marriage. It also allows friends and loved ones traveling from Texas, Stillwater, McAlester, and nearby communities to gather and pay their respects.
