Corona, CA Samir Weiss Arrested After Alleged Road Rage Incident With Orange County Cyclists on PCH

Samir Weiss arrested

A routine training ride along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway in Orange County escalated into a frightening confrontation that has now resulted in an arrest.

The incident occurred near Corona del Mar, close to Cameo Shores, where a group of cyclists says they were confronted by an aggressive driver in a blue BMW.

Professional cyclist Luke Fetzer, who was riding with friends during the outing, said the driver began swerving toward the group, honking and shouting as he passed them on the busy coastal stretch.

Fetzer, who logs tens of thousands of miles each year, said such encounters are not unusual for cyclists, but this situation quickly became more intense than anything he had experienced before.

At one point during the encounter, tensions escalated at a traffic light. Fetzer admitted he threw water toward the vehicle after the driver’s behavior became increasingly hostile. According to his account, the situation did not end there.

Confrontation Escalates Into Threats and Online Messages

Fetzer said the driver then stopped his vehicle, got out, and moved into the roadway, allegedly blocking traffic while shouting threats toward the cyclists.

He claimed the driver attempted to interfere with the group’s movement and made statements that he interpreted as threatening physical harm.

After the incident on the road, Fetzer said the situation followed him online. He reported that the same individual later tracked him down on social media and sent messages challenging him to a physical fight, further escalating concerns.

Screenshots shared publicly appeared to show provocative messages suggesting a staged “MMA-style” confrontation.

Fetzer, who is a competitive cyclist and multiple-time national champion, said he reported the matter to law enforcement shortly after the encounter. He also provided video evidence and the vehicle’s license plate information to authorities.

Suspect Arrested and Vehicle Seized as Evidence

Authorities in Orange County later confirmed that the incident led to the arrest of a man identified as Samir Weiss of Corona. He was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and obstruction or delay of arrest.

Police also confirmed that the blue BMW involved in the incident was seized from the suspect’s residence as evidence, as the investigation continues.

Officials have not released further details regarding the timeline of charges or potential court proceedings.

However, the arrest has drawn attention locally due to the seriousness of the allegations and the combination of roadway confrontation and alleged online threats.

Community Reacts to Escalating Road Rage Concerns

The incident has sparked renewed discussion about road safety for cyclists in busy coastal areas of Southern California.

Cyclists and community members have expressed concern about how quickly minor disputes on the road can escalate into dangerous confrontations.

Fetzer said his main concern is preventing similar incidents from happening to less experienced riders.

He emphasized that while disagreements between drivers and cyclists are not uncommon, the level of escalation in this case could have led to serious harm.

As the case moves forward, authorities continue to review evidence, including video footage and witness accounts, to determine the full sequence of events that led to the arrest.
