Creek County, Oklahoma, Recent Kiefer High School Graduate Talan Chesser Dies After Car Crash

Communities across Creek County, Oklahoma, are mourning the loss of Talan Chesser, a recent graduate of Kiefer High School who died Wednesday morning after a car crash that occurred the previous evening.

Chesser, who walked across the graduation stage just last month, also had close ties to the Beggs school district, where his mother teaches.

Kiefer Public Schools Superintendent Randy Shaw shared the news in a statement posted to Facebook, describing Chesser as a dedicated student who was deeply involved in both FFA and basketball during his time at the school.

The district announced that grief counselors would be available on Thursday at 10 a.m. inside the school’s agriculture building for any students, staff, or families who needed support processing the loss.

Beggs Public Schools also shared a statement, explaining that Chesser’s mother had been involved in the same crash and was hospitalized before being released.

The Beggs district noted that counseling services would be offered at the high school starting Friday at noon for anyone affected by the tragedy.

Friends and Teammates Remember a Bright Personality

Reaction poured in from teammates, classmates, and organizations that knew Chesser well. The Kiefer Trojans basketball program posted a tribute on social media, recalling how Chesser made everyone around him a better teammate and friend during his years in the program.

The post highlighted his selflessness and outgoing nature as qualities that left a lasting impression on those who played alongside him.

Kiefer FFA also released a heartfelt message, noting that Chesser had earned his State FFA Degree just weeks earlier in May. Members of the chapter described him as someone who could brighten any room he walked into, and said his kindness and humor left a mark on the entire FFA family.

The organization asked the community to keep Chesser’s family, friends, and classmates in their thoughts during this difficult time.

On Facebook, personal tributes from loved ones added to the outpouring of grief. One family member wrote of the heartbreak of losing him, calling it one of the hardest things they had ever experienced and asking for prayers and support from the community.

Chesser was also remembered for his athletic career at Beggs High School, where he played basketball as a forward and center, wearing jersey number 13.

He was part of the Beggs varsity basketball program from 2023 through this year, appearing in game highlights and building relationships with teammates that spanned his high school years.

As news of his death spread through both the Kiefer and Beggs communities, local outlets reported that support for the Chesser family continued to grow, with neighbors, coaches, and former classmates sharing condolences online.

Both school districts emphasized that counseling resources would remain available beyond the initial sessions for anyone who needed additional support in the coming days.

Funeral arrangements had not yet been announced as of Wednesday evening. Community members were encouraged to reach out to either school district for updates on services honoring Chesser’s life.

This is a developing story, and further details may be added as they become available from local authorities and the families involved.

If you or someone you know is struggling with grief or loss, support resources are available through local school counselors and community mental health services.
