Des Moines, LA, Edgar Rosa, 40, Film Producer Of “Bob Trevino Likes It,” Dead at 40

Edgar Rosa, a film and television producer based in Los Angeles, passed away on June 5, 2026. He was 40 years old. His family announced the news on his Facebook page, writing that he would be missed every day by the many people who loved him.

A formal obituary was published on June 9th. The outpouring of grief from friends, former classmates, and film industry colleagues that followed made clear just how wide a circle this man had touched in his lifetime.

Rosa was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, where they found their footing early through theater and music. He attended Roosevelt High School, and those who knew him there never forgot him. One former classmate remembered moving to a new school at 17 and feeling terrified, only to have Edgar be among the first to welcome her in.

Another recalled going with him to an Obama rally in downtown Des Moines in the days before the 2008 election, describing it as a moment full of shared hope that she still carried with her years later. He was that kind of person, someone who showed up in your memory not because of what he accomplished but because of how he made you feel.

After high school, he pursued his passion formally, studying at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. That education opened doors, but it was his reputation for reliability, warmth, and genuine skill that kept them open.

He spent years working as a freelance line producer and unit production manager before taking on head of production roles at Influential in Beverly Hills and later at All Def in Los Angeles.

In 2021, he founded Purple Suit Factory, his own production company, describing its mission as styling the next generation of content. He later added the role of executive producer at Purple Intuition in 2023.

The Work He Left Behind

His filmography at the time of his death was extensive and still growing. He served as line producer on the 2024 indie film Bob Trevino Likes It, which earned him praise from peers and audiences alike.

A former teacher who had known Edgar since his days as a band student at Callanan Middle School in Des Moines attended a screening of the film and wrote afterward that she was honored to have been invited.

Several projects were in post-production at the time of his passing, including a television series and multiple short films, a reminder that Edgar Rosa was someone who never stopped moving forward.

The tributes written in the days after his death spoke to a man who gave generously to everyone around him. A collaborator from his college years said that when the time came to make his first film, Edgar was the first call he made.

A friend who had just arrived in Los Angeles and was scared and unemployed remembered Edgar telling her calmly and without hesitation that she would find a job within three months. She did. She never forgot it.

Edgar Rosa is survived by his family and by an industry full of people who are only now realizing how much of what they built, they built with him beside them.
