Family Says Prominent Virginia Real Estate Broker Shot Three Times in Home During New Year’s Eve Incident

The family of Judy Boone, a well-known Norfolk real estate broker and owner of Judy Boone Realty Inc., says she was shot three times inside her home on New Year’s Eve in what they believe was a “botched burglary.” Boone, 72, remains hospitalized and is recovering.

Parts of Boone’s Norfolk home, including a sliding glass door and a side window, have been boarded up after bullets struck the residence. Boone is a prominent figure in the community and is often referred to as the “Queen of Ocean View.”

In a statement released by the family, they said Boone was injured late New Year’s Eve and is now receiving medical care. While she is dealing with physical pain, the family said she is deeply upset that such an incident occurred. They added that investigators currently believe the shooting stemmed from a failed burglary attempt. The family also expressed gratitude for the community’s support and requested privacy as Boone continues to heal.

Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi told NewsNation affiliate WAVY that there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood. He said the shooting does not appear to be random but declined to provide further details, citing the integrity of the investigation and the rights of anyone who may ultimately be charged.

Police have not officially confirmed that Boone was struck by the gunfire, though a neighbor told WAVY she was shot while inside her home by someone outside. Norfolk Police said officers responded to a call just before midnight on New Year’s Eve and found a 72-year-old woman suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Investigators confirmed that Boone’s bedroom sliding glass door and an additional window were hit by gunfire. A Sentara Health spokesperson later confirmed Boone is in fair condition at a local hospital, recovering from a single gunshot wound.

Police scanner traffic from 11:58 p.m. on Dec. 31 captured a dispatcher stating that Judy Boone herself had called to report that she had been shot.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not said whether the incident was targeted or accidental, nor have they identified any suspects. Due to the New Year’s holiday closure of Norfolk Circuit Court, no court records related to the case were available this week.

WAVY also contacted Judy Boone Realty Inc. for comment, but the company responded with “no comment.”
