A Farmville man will spend 15 years in prison after being sentenced on Wednesday for drug and firearms offenses committed in Nottoway County last year.
On Wednesday, Nov. 12, 42-year-old Tyrone Lamont Fowlkes received his sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for possessing cocaine, methamphetamine, Oxycodone and marijuana with the intent to distribute.
According to court documents, on Feb. 7, 2024, Fowlkes sat inside a pickup truck in a Nottoway County parking lot when a deputy approached and tapped on his window. Fowlkes sped away, prompting a pursuit. He soon crashed into a tree, totaling the vehicle and injuring himself.
Law enforcement recovered three firearms, three digital scales, $948.84, 198 grams of cocaine, four methamphetamine pills, 60 Oxycodone pills and 455 grams of marijuana. The Department of Justice (DOJ) noted that one of the firearms was believed to be stolen. Multiple arrest warrants followed.
On Aug. 9, 2024, officers found Fowlkes driving an SUV in Nottoway despite his outstanding warrants.
During a traffic stop, a police K-9 detected narcotics in the vehicle. Officers searched the SUV and found three firearms, a large-capacity magazine, two digital scales, $1,260, 117 grams of cocaine, 20 grams of methamphetamine, 24 Oxycodone pills and 321 grams of marijuana.
The DOJ said Fowlkes had previous convictions for distributing cocaine in 2008 and 2011, as well as a 2021 conviction for possessing marijuana with intent to distribute in connection with a 2019 incident where investigators say he possessed a firearm.
Because Fowlkes is a convicted felon, he is legally barred from possessing firearms or ammunition.
