Pennsylvania State Police are continuing their search for a missing campground employee who disappeared while on duty at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Springfield Township, Fayette County.
Jared Matthew Callahan, 43, of Ohiopyle, was reported missing on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, after colleagues discovered his maintenance cart abandoned at the far end of the campground property with no sign of him anywhere nearby.
Troopers were called to the campground at approximately 6:20 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after campground management raised the alarm.
Employees had already conducted their own search of the surrounding area before contacting authorities, but were unable to locate Callahan.
State Police quickly took over and launched what they described as an extensive search operation, driven in part by concerns over his welfare and known medical issues.
The search effort on Tuesday night involved multiple agencies and resources. Volunteer fire departments combed the grounds on foot while crews deployed UTVs to cover the more rugged terrain surrounding the property.
Drone units conducted aerial sweeps of the area, and bloodhounds were brought in to track a scent, but despite the thorough operation, Callahan was not located that night. No significant updates were provided by State Police on Thursday regarding any new developments in the case.
Who Is Jared Callahan
Callahan is described as approximately six feet tall and weighing around 170 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes.
The photograph released by Pennsylvania State Police was taken on the same day he was reported missing, giving the public an accurate and current look at the man they are being asked to help find.
He is a local resident, hailing from Ohiopyle, a small borough in Fayette County well known for its whitewater rafting along the Youghiogheny River.
The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear. There has been no indication of foul play reported by authorities at this stage, though the investigation and search remain active. The discovery of his maintenance cart left unattended in a remote section of the campground is what initially triggered concerns among his coworkers and management.
Search Efforts Continue as Community Urged to Help
As of Thursday, the search was still ongoing with no confirmed sighting of Callahan.
Authorities have not released further details about the specific medical concerns that prompted the elevated urgency of the search, but those concerns played a direct role in the scale of the response from the very first night.
Pennsylvania State Police are asking anyone with information about Callahan’s whereabouts to contact the PSP Uniontown barracks directly at 724-439-7111, referencing incident number PA26-753223. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the PSP tip line at 1-800-472-8477.
This remains a developing story, and authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small it may seem.
