Federal Way, Officer-Involved Shooting Shuts Down Campus Drive Near Arcadia Townhomes

Federal Way police shut down a stretch of Campus Drive on Wednesday evening after an officer-involved shooting near the Arcadia Townhomes complex, prompting an extended road closure and a heavy police presence in the area.

Residents in the Federal Way Community Group on Facebook began reporting the closure in real time, noting that the road was blocked off almost all the way to the aquatic center.

Several commenters said patrol cars and officers had flooded the area within minutes, with one resident saying she had seen more than a dozen Federal Way police vehicles drive past the Winco grocery store roughly forty minutes before the closure was confirmed.

Multiple neighbors who live in or near the Arcadia Townhomes said the shooting happened only a couple of buildings away from their homes.

One resident said she was unable to pull into her own driveway because of the closure, while another said she and her family had been able to get into the complex through a side entrance just before the area became fully locked down with officers everywhere.

What Residents Reported in the Community Group

Commenters in the group offered shifting accounts as the evening went on. Some early posts described it only as a shooting in the parking lot, while others confirmed it was an officer-involved shooting that would likely keep the road closed for an extended period.

Several neighbors who were not near the scene asked what was happening, with others directing them to neighborhood safety apps for live updates rather than relying solely on social media chatter.

Later in the thread, the tone shifted as more details emerged. One user wrote that a young man who had been shot was currently in surgery and asked others in the group to keep him in their thoughts.

Another commenter asked for clarification on who exactly had been hurt, and the original poster clarified it was the young man who was shot, not an officer. As of the most recent comments, no additional official details about his condition had been shared in the group.

Federal Way police have not yet released an official statement confirming the exact circumstances of the shooting, including how many officers were involved, what led up to the gunfire, or the current condition of the person who was shot.

Residents are being urged to avoid the Campus Drive corridor near the aquatic center and Arcadia Townhomes while the investigation continues.

This incident comes amid a string of violent crime concerns in the South King County area in recent weeks. Just one day earlier, KOMO News reported that a 15-year-old with a documented history of violent crime allegations was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old girl in Kent on June 3, a case prosecutors say was gang-related.

That same teen had previously been linked to an incident in Federal Way in May 2025, when he accompanied a 20-year-old man during an attempted robbery at an apartment complex that ended with the 20-year-old being shot and killed by an intended victim.

Federal Way police are expected to release more information once the investigation into Wednesday’s shooting progresses.

Residents are advised to follow official channels and local safety apps for verified updates rather than relying on secondhand accounts circulating on social media, since details shared by witnesses in the immediate aftermath of an incident can often change as more facts come to light.
