Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., a former walk-on football player at the University of Virginia, has been sentenced to life in prison for a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of three student-athletes and injured two others.
A judge handed down the maximum penalty of five consecutive life sentences plus 23 additional years on Friday. Jones pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, and five counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The tragic shooting took place on November 13, 2022, aboard a charter bus returning from a class trip to Washington, D.C. Jones fatally shot football players Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry. Running back Mike Hollins and track athlete Marlee Morgan were seriously wounded but survived.
Jones apologized during the sentencing, acknowledging the pain and loss caused by his actions. Family members of the vict
