Former NBA guard Delonte West was arrested earlier this month in Alexandria, Virginia, after police said he appeared intoxicated at a local intersection.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, officers responded to Fairhaven Avenue and Richmond Highway around 8:30 p.m. on November 2 following a report of an unconscious person. When officers arrived, they found West, 42, displaying clear signs of intoxication. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, but officials said West refused to go to the hospital.
Police stated that he was taken into custody for his own safety and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was later released.
West, a Greenbelt, Maryland native, graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School before attending Saint Joseph’s University. He went on to play for the Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Dallas Mavericks during his NBA career. In recent years, he has been open about his ongoing struggles with substance abuse.
