A former water polo coach in Redlands, California, has been arrested on multiple felony charges involving a teenage student, according to police and district officials.
Luke Anthony Quintana, 21, was taken into custody on April 29 following a traffic stop in Redlands.
Authorities say the arrest is connected to an investigation into allegations involving a 15-year-old girl who reported a sexual relationship with Quintana.
He is facing charges that include unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, sexual penetration with a foreign object, and oral copulation with a minor.
According to the Redlands Police Department, the case began after the teenage girl came forward in March 2026 to report what had taken place.
Investigators with the department’s Special Victims Unit then opened a formal inquiry. Police stated that Quintana was located and arrested after officers conducted a traffic stop in the city.
Officials said the relationship allegedly began several months earlier. The girl reported that she first met Quintana in October 2025 at a water polo match held at Citrus Valley High School.
At the time, Quintana was working as an assistant coach within the Redlands Unified School District. He later also served as a volunteer coach during the following school year.
Investigators allege that communication between Quintana and the student continued after their initial meeting and moved to social media platforms.
Authorities said the two eventually arranged to meet off campus in February 2026, during which a sexual encounter allegedly took place.
The school district confirmed Quintana’s employment history, stating that he worked as an assistant coach during the 2024 to 2025 school year and later volunteered during the 2025 to 2026 school year.
District officials also said they became aware of the allegations after the report was made to law enforcement and subsequently met with the student and her family.
In a public statement, Superintendent Juan Cabral said the district is deeply concerned by the allegations and is fully cooperating with investigators.
He emphasized that the safety and well-being of students remain the district’s highest priority. The district also said it is providing counseling and support services for students who may be affected by the situation.
Police have not stated whether they believe there may be additional victims connected to Quintana. However, they confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Officials are encouraging anyone with relevant information to come forward and contact the Redlands Police Department’s Investigations Bureau.
Quintana is currently being held in custody while the case proceeds. Court proceedings are expected to follow as prosecutors review the charges and evidence gathered during the investigation.
The case has drawn attention in the Redlands community due to Quintana’s recent role within the school district and his contact with student athletes through extracurricular sports programs.
Authorities have not released further details regarding court dates or potential additional charges at this time.
Police continue to investigate all circumstances surrounding the case and have reiterated that anyone with information is encouraged to assist investigators as the process moves forward.
