A resident at a care facility in a northern Minneapolis suburb is in custody after allegedly starting a fire that injured another resident.
First responders were called to The Estates at Fridley around 5 a.m. Monday after reports of a fire, according to the city’s public safety department. Smoke was coming from a resident’s room, and crews partially evacuated the building. One resident was taken to Hennepin Healthcare with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Authorities identified another resident as a suspect in starting the fire but initially did not know his whereabouts. Six agencies assisted in locating and arresting him.
The State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident along with Anoka County officials and Fridley police.
According to its website, The Estates is a 54-bed nursing facility providing a holistic approach to short-term rehabilitation and long-term care.
