From Viral Video to Federal Charges: Nicholas Scelfo Arrested After Threatening ICE Agent’s Family

The FBI moved fast. Nicholas Scelfo, the man caught on camera screaming death threats at an ICE agent outside the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, is now in federal custody and facing felony charges.

The arrest, which came after a raid on Scelfo’s home, was confirmed by DOJ sources and announced publicly on May 30, 2026.

The video that circulated widely online showed Scelfo screaming at an unmasked ICE officer, “I’ll kill your whole family. Your whole family is dead. Your children, your wife, all dead.”

Those words, spoken directly to a federal law enforcement officer in public, set off a swift federal response that ended with Scelfo in handcuffs.

Threats Made During Days of Chaos Outside Delaney Hall

Anti-ICE protesters had occupied the Newark facility during the days leading up to the arrest, setting up barricades to block vehicles from leaving the facility and confronting federal agents in what authorities described as a violent standoff.

It was during this chaotic scene that Scelfo was filmed making the explicit threats that would soon land him in federal custody.

The video was recorded and shared by journalist Nick Sortor, who later confirmed the FBI had acted. Sortor announced on social media that the FBI had raided the home and arrested the man he had caught on video threatening the lives of an ICE agent and his family outside ICE Newark.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche also confirmed the arrest, posting on social media that the FBI had arrested the man who threatened to kill ICE officers and their families.

The Department of Homeland Security weighed in as well, stating that justice will be served, and that the Trump administration will always have the backs of its heroic law enforcement as they put their lives on the line to protect the nation.

Federal Felony Charges Now Loom Over Scelfo

DOJ sources confirmed that Scelfo is facing federal felony charges stemming from the threats he made against the ICE agent and the agent’s family outside the Delaney Hall detention facility.

The specific charges had not been fully detailed publicly at the time of reporting, but federal charges for threatening a federal law enforcement officer carry serious prison time under United States law.

Scelfo was not the only person arrested in connection with the Newark protests. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that a second individual was also taken into custody, accused of biting federal agents during the demonstrations outside Delaney Hall.

The swift federal action drew significant attention online and among law enforcement circles, with many pointing to the case as an example of consequences following confrontations with federal officers. Scelfo went from viral video to federal defendant within days.

As of publication, Scelfo is in federal custody. The case is expected to move forward through the federal court system. All defendants are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.
