A growing concern over student safety has emerged in the small community of Vida, Oregon, after a parent took to social media to speak out about alleged bullying involving her young child.
The post, shared by Victoria Troute, has since drawn attention from other parents who say the issue may be more widespread than initially believed.
According to the post, Troute claims that her 6-year-old daughter has been repeatedly targeted by older students associated with McKenzie School.
She described multiple instances where her child came home upset after being called names and mistreated. The mother expressed frustration and anger, stating that such behavior is unacceptable and must stop immediately.
What has raised particular concern among parents is the age gap between those allegedly involved.
While details remain unclear, several community members suggested that high school students may have been interacting with younger children in settings such as physical education classes or through teaching assistant roles.
Community Raises Concerns Over Repeated Incidents
The post quickly gained traction within local community groups, prompting other parents to come forward with similar concerns. Some indicated that bullying has been an ongoing issue that has already been reported to school authorities.
Rachel Ridel commented that multiple families have experienced similar problems and expressed frustration over what she described as a lack of meaningful action.
I’ve heard these same concerns from many parents, and it is beyond frustrating that this keeps happening. You are not the only family dealing with older kids bullying younger children. This has been brought to the school’s attention before, more than once, and the lack of meaningful action is unacceptable.
Rachel Ridel
She emphasized that children should feel safe not only at school but also on buses and within the broader community.
Another parent, Alicia Rayy, shared that the child had reportedly faced bullying on the school bus several times before the most recent incident during a physical education session.
It’s really sad that she is continuously getting bullied on the bus since she started . This is the 4th time that she has came and complained .
Alicia Ray
About bullies on the bus . This is the bus that stops at the Vida cafe . So hopefully any other moms who might have high schoolers that ride that bus that wouldn’t mind asking there kids if they know anything about this . Being a bully isn’t cute or okay .
She noted that this was not an isolated case and urged other parents to speak with their children to better understand what may be happening.
Some parents suggested that the involvement of older students could be linked to school programs where high schoolers assist teachers as aides.
While such programs are typically designed to benefit both age groups, several commenters argued that stronger supervision may be necessary to prevent inappropriate behavior.
Calls for Accountability and Action
As the discussion continued, many community members called for immediate action from school administrators. Parents urged others to formally report incidents and maintain pressure until clear steps are taken.
Jourdan Metcalfe encouraged direct communication with school staff, including teachers and administrators, stating that consistent reporting can lead to solutions.
As a parent to a kindergartner and second grader, contact the school tomorrow! Admin and your child’s teacher.
Jourdan Metcalfe
We’ve had issues on and off since my second grader was in preschool, and thankfully they’ve all been listened to and solutions have been made. This year has been the best year by far with very minimal issues. Any issues has been kids around the same grade, we’ve never had much older kids picking on them. But I’m assuming the steps to reporting would be the same. Don’t stop putting pressure on them until something is done.
She added that while her own experiences had improved over time, the involvement of significantly older students in such incidents is especially concerning.
Others voiced stronger reactions. Kathy Solomon recommended escalating the matter to district leadership if the situation is not addressed promptly. Meanwhile, Michelle Baker proposed increased parental presence on school buses as a possible deterrent.
I would remove her from school and file a formal complaint with the Superintendent. If nothing is being done to protect her from older boys, what’s to stop them from taking it to other levels.
Kathy Solomon
The situation has also sparked broader reflection about bullying in schools and the role of adults in addressing it. Several commenters stressed that ignoring such behavior can allow it to continue, potentially leading to more serious consequences over time.
At this stage, no official statement from McKenzie School or district authorities has been publicly shared regarding the allegations.
However, the conversation unfolding online highlights a community seeking answers and reassurance that students, especially younger children, are being protected.
As parents continue to speak out, the focus remains on ensuring accountability and creating a safer environment for all students in the Vida area.
