A Piatt County jury has found a man guilty on multiple charges related to a deadly crash that claimed the life of Joshua Beck in April 2025.
Court records show that Jason Sharp was convicted on four counts of aggravated driving under the influence following a collision that occurred in rural Piatt County, Illinois.
The case stemmed from a two-vehicle crash that took place at the intersection of 2500 North Road and 800 East Road. Authorities say the incident happened when Sharp failed to obey a yield sign, leading to a violent impact with another vehicle.
According to the Piatt County Sheriff’s Office, Joshua Beck, who was 50 years old, was driving through the intersection when Sharp entered the roadway without yielding. Beck’s vehicle struck Sharp’s car, causing Sharp’s vehicle to roll over.
The force of the collision left both vehicles heavily damaged and resulted in a chaotic scene that required a large emergency response.
At the time of the crash, Sharp was traveling with three passengers. Two women and one man were inside his vehicle when the collision occurred. Emergency responders arrived quickly after dispatchers received reports of a serious crash.
Sharp and two of his passengers were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals for treatment. One of the passengers, who sustained more severe injuries, was airlifted to a medical facility for urgent care.
Despite the rapid response from emergency personnel, Joshua Beck was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. His death prompted an immediate investigation by local law enforcement into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office determined that Sharp’s actions leading up to the collision were a significant factor in the crash. Police reports indicate that citations were issued at the scene.
Following further review, formal charges were filed in May 2025. Sharp was charged with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence, reflecting both the seriousness of the crash and the number of people affected.
Court proceedings moved forward over the following months. Sharp was denied pre-trial release and was ordered to surrender to the Piatt County Jail ahead of court appearances.
The legal process continued until a verdict was reached, resulting in his conviction on all four counts.
Sentencing in the case has been scheduled for mid June 2026. The outcome of that hearing will determine Sharp’s punishment for his role in the crash that led to Beck’s death and caused injuries to multiple others.
The case has drawn attention in the local community, where residents have followed the court proceedings closely since the fatal crash occurred.
For Beck’s family and others impacted by the incident, the conviction marks an important step in the legal process, although the emotional impact of the loss continues to be felt.
Authorities have not released additional details about ongoing recovery efforts for the injured passengers involved in the crash.
