John Jay High School Teacher Chad Allen Rodriguez Faces Felony Charge After Alleged Months-Long Relationship With Teen Student

John Jay High School Teacher Chad Allen Rodriguez Faces Felony Charge After Alleged Months-Long Relationship With Teen Student

A Northside Independent School District teacher is now facing serious criminal charges after San Antonio police say he carried on an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student for several months during the school year.

Chad Allen Rodriguez, 38, was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on Saturday on a charge of improper relationship between an educator and a student, a second-degree felony under Texas law. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.

Rodriguez had been employed by NISD since August 2016 and was working as a physics and astronomy teacher as well as a football and track coach at John Jay High School, located in the 7600 block of Marbach Road.

Following his arrest, the district confirmed he has been placed on immediate administrative leave.

According to an arrest affidavit, the case came to light on May 15 when authorities were called to the campus.

The incident that triggered the investigation reportedly occurred the day before, on May 14, when an unidentified student was walking in the hallway near Rodriguez’s classroom and spotted him alone inside with the teenage victim.

That student told another student what they had witnessed, and the information was then passed along to school staff members, who reported it to law enforcement.

Investigators with the San Antonio Police Department’s Special Victims Unit interviewed the victim, who told them she first met Rodriguez in October 2025.

According to the affidavit, what started as eye contact and flirting inside the classroom eventually escalated into a physical relationship.

The victim told authorities that she and Rodriguez had sexual intercourse multiple times throughout the school year, with encounters reportedly taking place both on and off campus.

The affidavit also states that Rodriguez and the student exchanged cell phone numbers and sent explicit photos and videos to one another over the course of the relationship.

Surveillance footage obtained from the school allegedly showed the victim entering Rodriguez’s classroom by herself and staying inside for approximately 10 minutes before leaving.

In that same footage, another student can be seen looking through the window near the classroom door shortly before the victim walked out.

NISD released a statement addressing the arrest, saying the district became aware of the allegations and took immediate action.

“The employee has been placed on immediate administrative leave,” the statement read. “While we cannot share specific details due to the ongoing police investigation, NISD and Jay High School are cooperating fully with law enforcement.

Our priority remains the safety and well-being of our students, and we are committed to maintaining a secure, supportive environment during this time.”

Rodriguez was arrested off campus, according to NISD. The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not publicly indicated whether additional victims or witnesses have come forward.

Under the Texas Penal Code, an improper relationship between an educator and student is a second-degree felony that carries a potential sentence of two to 20 years in prison upon conviction. The charge applies regardless of whether the student consented, given the position of authority held by the educator.
