MARION COUNTY, FLORIDA A boxing coach is facing serious charges after a monthslong investigation into abuse allegations involving a teenage student.
Coach Arrested on Multiple Charges
Marion County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detective Zachary Elliot arrested 64-year-old Juan Carlos Quintero Barrios on July 6, 2026. He faces charges of lewd or lascivious molestation along with eight counts of lewd or lascivious battery. The victim in the case was between 12 and 16 years old at the time of the alleged incidents.
Investigators opened the case after deputies were called on June 10, 2026, to look into reports that the abuse had been ongoing since September 2025. The juvenile who came forward named Quintero Barrios, her boxing coach, as the person responsible.
According to detectives, the alleged incidents took place across several locations in Marion County, including boxing gyms where Quintero Barrios trained students, his personal residence, a hotel room, and his vehicle.
Throughout the investigation, detectives said the victim gave information that helped them piece together the timeline and build their case against him. When detectives sat down with Quintero Barrios on July 6, he confirmed that he had coached the teenager and answered questions tied to the allegations against him.
Coach Held Without Bond, More Victims Possible
Once the interview concluded, deputies took Quintero Barrios into custody and booked him into the Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
Because Quintero Barrios spent years working closely with children through his coaching, detectives now believe there could be other victims who have not yet come forward. Investigators are asking anyone who may have information related to the case or who may have had a concerning experience with Quintero Barrios to reach out.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Marion County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detective Zachary Elliot directly at (352) 368-3847.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not ruled out additional charges as more information comes in. Cases like this often widen once an arrest becomes public, since other potential victims or witnesses may see the news and feel more comfortable stepping forward.
Community members in Marion County are encouraged to talk with their children about personal safety, especially those involved in youth sports or coaching programs, and to report any concerns to local law enforcement rather than staying silent. Officials continue to stress that early reporting helps protect other children who may be at risk.
This story will be updated if additional charges or details become available as the investigation continues.
