Concern continues to grow in Maryville as family members and friends search for answers about the whereabouts and safety of Karen S. Potter, a local woman who recently endured a violent beating, hospitalization, jail time, and release under troubling circumstances.
On February 26, a woman identified as Nay Nay publicly asked whether anyone had heard from Karen S. Potter after what she described as a severe beating that left Potter hospitalized.
According to her account, medical staff admitted Potter for treatment but later released her, despite concerns that she remained vulnerable. Authorities then jailed Potter and released her again on Monday.
Nay Nay expressed deep concern about Potter’s safety, pointing to the “heinous beating” she allegedly suffered and noting that the individuals responsible were not in custody.
She stressed that regardless of any prior disputes or disagreements, no one deserves such violence. She said she feared for Potter’s wellbeing, especially given the seriousness of the attack and the circumstances surrounding it.
The situation grew more alarming when Nay Nay explained that before her arrest, Potter was unable to retrieve personal belongings from her home, including her wallet and phone.
As a result, she may not have access to basic necessities or a way to contact loved ones. She also stated that Potter was trespassed from her own residence, meaning she could not legally return to collect her property after her release.
Without identification, communication devices, or stable housing, Potter’s vulnerability appears to have increased.
“I need to hear it from the horse’s mouth,” Nay Nay wrote, emphasizing that she would not rely on secondhand information about Potter’s safety.
Until she hears directly from Potter, she plans to continue raising awareness. She urged anyone who has seen Potter personally or knows how to reach her to come forward.
Two days later, on February 28, the situation escalated further. Nay Nay reported that the Blount County Sheriff’s Office contacted her to confirm that Karen S. Potter had been officially reported missing.
The development intensified fears among friends and family, who say they are “worried sick.”
In her latest update, Nay Nay pleaded with anyone who may have contact with Potter to ask her to reach out to her son at the very least to confirm that she is safe. Loved ones say they simply want to know that she is alive and out of harm’s way.
