A Tragic Afternoon on Newman Springs Road
The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Newman Springs Road near Jumping Brook Road in Middletown, New Jersey. Gustavo was riding his e-bike when he collided with the rear of a stopped vehicle.
He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Emergency responders from Middletown EMS arrived at the scene and provided immediate treatment before transporting him to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Classmates, teachers, and friends have been left grieving the sudden and devastating loss of someone who was only just beginning his high school journey.
A Young Life That Touched Many Hearts
Gustavo had moved to Middletown from Long Branch, and according to a teacher from his former school, the Long Branch community is also mourning his passing.
He was remembered by those who knew him as a young person whose presence positively impacted everyone around him.
Tributes shared online and throughout both communities have painted a picture of a teenager who formed genuine connections with the people in his life and left a lasting impression far beyond what his years might suggest.

The outpouring of love from both Middletown and Long Branch speaks volumes about the kind of person he was and the mark he left on his community in such a short time.
The Middletown community has rallied around the Rocha family, offering condolences, prayers, and support as they face an unimaginable loss. Fundraising efforts have also been organized to help the family during this incredibly difficult time.
