Minneapolis gang member caught with machine gun, pleads guilty

Ibrahim Ahmed Mohamud, also known as “Ibbs” and “30,” pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of a machine gun.

U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen said Mohamud, 19, is a member of the “Young Slime Life” gang. Witnesses linked him to a drive-by shooting on February 24, 2024, in which he allegedly shot at someone he mistook for a rival “Muddy” gang member.

Law enforcement obtained a warrant to search Mohamud’s vehicle, finding two guns inside, including a fully automatic Glock 19x 9mm pistol. Authorities connected these firearms to a prior shooting in Lino Lakes targeting “Muddy” gang members.

Court documents state that during the search, video footage captured Mohamud trying to coerce a juvenile into claiming ownership of the guns, believing the juvenile would avoid prosecution. Mohamud’s DNA was found on the automatic pistol.

Mohamud pleaded guilty before Judge Laura M. Provinzino. A sentencing date will be scheduled later.

The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the FBI and Minneapolis Police Department.
