Authorities in Hennepin County have confirmed that charges are being filed against three members of the Ostroushko family following an alleged assault on journalist Savanah Hernandez during a protest in Minneapolis.
According to law enforcement statements and multiple video recordings circulated online, Chris Ostroushko, his wife DeYanna Ostroushko, and their 20-year-old daughter Paige Ostroushko were involved in an incident outside the Whipple Federal Building during an anti immigration enforcement demonstration on April 12, 2026.
Hernandez, a conservative journalist associated with Turning Point USA coverage, stated she was at the scene to record general footage of the protest and was not engaging with participants.
She later reported that she was physically confronted and injured during the encounter, describing a shove from behind that caused her to fall and additional contact during the altercation. She also stated she experienced head and neck discomfort following the incident and indicated she intended to pursue legal action.
Video footage posted on social media appears to show a confrontation escalating between Hernandez and multiple protesters.
In the recordings, Paige Ostroushko is seen approaching Hernandez closely and using a whistle near her. Moments later, she appears to make physical contact.
Another angle shows Chris Ostroushko moving toward Hernandez and pushing her from behind, causing her to fall forward.
DeYanna Ostroushko is also visible in the vicinity of the confrontation and appears to be involved in the broader exchange as tensions increase.
Law enforcement officials said that multiple officers were required to regain control of the situation as crowds gathered and parts of the protest became increasingly chaotic.
Reports indicate that additional individuals were also taken into custody for related conduct, including obstruction of law enforcement activity.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that charges will be pursued against the three Ostroushko family members in connection with the alleged assault.
Officials have not yet released detailed charging documents, but indicated that the case will proceed through standard legal channels.
The incident has drawn widespread attention online, particularly after Hernandez posted about the confrontation and shared video clips identifying those she says were involved.
The footage quickly spread across social media platforms, prompting debate about conduct at public demonstrations and the safety of journalists covering protest activity.
Supporters of Hernandez have argued that the attack represents a serious violation of press freedom and have called for accountability through the courts.
Others have pointed to the broader tensions surrounding immigration enforcement protests, noting that confrontations between demonstrators, counter demonstrators, and media figures have become increasingly common in recent years.
Chris Ostroushko has previously appeared at political demonstrations and has been associated with outspoken opposition to federal immigration enforcement policies.
Public posts and past interviews show him participating in protests and engaging in confrontational exchanges with media figures.
Paige Ostroushko, who is listed as a student athlete at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, has also drawn attention due to her involvement in the incident.
Her athletic participation has prompted discussion online about whether universities or athletic programs should review conduct matters involving student athletes who face criminal charges.
As of now, all three members of the Ostroushko family are expected to respond to the allegations in court. Authorities have not announced a court date, and none of the individuals have publicly entered a plea.
The case remains under investigation, and officials say additional details may be released as the legal process continues.
