Mother Allegedly Attacked Deputies to Prevent Arrest of Daughter in Canutillo

A 64-year-old mother allegedly attacked deputies to stop them from arresting her daughter during a domestic assault call in Canutillo.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a domestic assault at the 8700 block of Kingsway Drive. When officers attempted to arrest 32-year-old Mayra Salinas, her mother, Marisela Valenzuela, allegedly stepped between them and attacked the deputies.

Deputies eventually arrested both mother and daughter and booked them into the El Paso County Downtown Jail.

Jail records show that Salinas was charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member and resisting arrest. Her combined bond was set at $3,500.

Valenzuela was charged with assault of a peace officer and interfering with public duties, also with a combined bond of $3,500.

According to jail records, both women were released on Friday after posting a surety bond.
